Apple’s MacOS 26 (Tahoe) introduced a “Liquid Glass” design for app icons that resulted in blurry, less distinct icons and mandated a uniform squircle shape for all third-party app icons, reducing their usability and personality. However, the upcoming MacOS 27 (Golden Gate) betas show improvements with sharper Apple app icons and a push to restore varied, distinctive icon shapes, which would enhance both usability and creativity by allowing icons to be more easily distinguished.
